Chiltern Firehouse is actually a hotel in Marylebone but houses one of the neighborhoods best restaurant/bars, attracting an ultra posh crowd (celeb spotting central). Granted the chef is Michelin-starred, the food is actually really good and if you want to avoid the ‘scene’ I’d recommend dropping by for brunch on the weekend (open from 11-3pm). I’m constantly in search of outdoor brunch options in London and was pleasantly surprised to find a cute little courtyard here – very NYC west village vibe!
Food: Everything we had was delicious. Surprisingly light & bright, even the main courses were perfect for brunch time. Every dish was flavorful and just the right portion size to fill you up without leaving you ready for a nap. Make sure to try the cod. I watched on a documentary once that cod can be referred to as “fresh” for up to 3 months due to the nature of the way it’s stored…sketchy…but the point was to say this cod was the opposite of that – seriously fresh and flakey!
Ambience: Though less posh than after dark, the scene at brunch is still quite upper east side. In other words, people are well dressed, well groomed, and most likely sipping champagne while deep in gossip. The decor inside is very French bistro-esque with bright lighting and a well-stocked bar. Outdoor seating is casual and charming and houses a little oyster shack.
Kale & Cavolo Nero Salad w Apple, Burrata & Seaweed | For them basic b*tches. Hah, just kidding this kale salad was actually delicious with a fatty burrata and perfect sweet and sour balance.
Salmon Tartare | No idea what the sauce was made of but it was divine! Potentially sesame paste? The little pieces of apple added a kick!
Infamous Cod | Sooo soft (served medium rare) with crunchy parmesan chips and spring vegetables. Didn’t really want to share this.
Wood Grilled Cauliflower w Vegetable XO, Sour Cream & Australian Truffle | Only thing I would eat if I ever went vegetarian.
Side of Green Beans w Peach & Almond | Not necessary, but still yum!
